A Message From Winnie and Friends
HI FANS! I've been talking with my fellow Mustangs and I know what they want for Christmas. Mustangs want enough food to eat, access to drinking water, freedom to roam, and a safe place to rest at night with their relatives and friends close by. Doesn't this sound like what people the world over want for Christmas, too? Please take a moment this holiday to view this important video clip.May there be peace among all peoples, and between people and animals, too. We have feelings, we have souls, and we value our lives just like people do. In the New Year, I hope to see an end to horse slaughter in this country, and all over the world, and I pray for an end to all animal slaughter during my lifetime. Thanks so much for being such great fans this year! Love, Winnie P.S. Merry Christmas!
Donovan Gets a Corrective Lift on Back Foot
Last month our veterinarian, Dr. Darling, made x-rays of Donovan's crooked hind foot and discussed corrective possibilities with Barefoot Trim Artist James Youngblood and his expert teacher, Sally Hugg. Yesterday Sally took photos of the foot before the work began. Sally added a Vettec product called Superfast, (a nontoxic urethane) to reshape Donny's hoof. This should help him place more weight on the outside of the foot, relieving pressure on joints and ligaments in his hind leg. Next, Sally filed off the rough spots so the Superfast would blend in with the hoof. Throughout the procedure, Donovan behaved like a perfect and very patient gentleman. The Finished Masterpiece! Today Donovan is walking better, with a straighter leg and no hock wobbling. We took him out on the trail and for once, he did not stumble. He really likes his new foot!
My Friends in Nevada Need Your Help
Hi Fans! Winnie here, asking for your help. Seems the Nevada Department of Agriculture may be illegally selling protected mustangs to kill buyer Kevin "Ole" Olsen. Don't let my regal friends end up in the slaughter house. Please click the link below to read the full story. Here is another sad article forwarded to me by Mister Albino, which points out that many of the horse killers have criminal records and don't follow the law. Forest Takes to the Trail!
Over Thanksgiving Week, JayaMae started her Appaloosa, Forest, under saddle. His best friend, Donovan, led him out for his first trail ride on Friday. On Saturday, he went out again, for a longer ride with Donovan, Jakob astride, and Winnie as the head mare, leading the way. JayaMae poses with Forest at the Lookout Point. A perfect gentleman, behaving well on the trail, even at the trot. My youngest grandson also had his first trail experience, on Winnie, last month. Winnie gave Asali her extra blanket to help her through the coldest night we've had so far: 25 degrees F. Everyone bedded down happily with grain and yummy California hay!
