Walking with Winnie

Welcome

Ann Byrns and Winnie here, sending our smiles to you. Winnie is the little black mare seen on these pages, and I’m Ann, her human caretaker or “mom.” Early in 2009, we trained for a walk across America, conquering 300 miles before we had to quit due to Winnie developing stifle problems. Winnie and I want to thank you for visiting our web site to learn more about our adventure and America’s wonderful national treasure, the Mustang horse.

Why Walk?

After losing my business along with my life savings in August of 2008, my grown children urged me to move closer to them, back to the west where I spent most of my youth. My daughter and her husband promised to make a place for me near their home in Paradise, CA. My son, a computer engineer, backed this plan, too, and designed these web pages for me.

Your Stories Matter to Me

In these tough times, many Americans have stories of financial loss more dramatic than my own. Sometimes the financial loss is connected with an illness, or the financial stress itself produces loss of health. Most of us find a way to rally on. Sometimes an experience or person alters our perception about what really counts in life. These are the stories I hope to collect from those who visit this web site. Let our stories inspire others and be the testament we leave behind for our children and grandchildren.
