Walking with Winnie

Thank You

Winnie and I would like to thank you for visiting our web site. We would also like to acknowledge the people and organizations that have contributed and helped us on our walk across America. We apologize for any inadvertent omissions, or for delays in expressing our gratitude on these pages. To the folks who hosted us, thank you! Winnie wants to thank her fans, too, for joining her fan club. Our journey would not have been possible without the help of many kind and loving people, and we appreciate each and every one of them.

Mark McPartland aka "Mister Albino"
A BIG THANK-YOU goes out to Mister Albino for sponsoring Donovan, the Tennessee Walker whose owner passed away from cancer in the summer of 2009. Donovan needed a rabies shot, his teeth floated, and some x-rays taken of a crooked hind foot. Mister Albino has provided funds for fiberglass lifts to correct the hoof problems on this barefoot horse. We also thank Mark for new fly hats for Winnie and Donovan, buckets of Stud Muffins and thrush medicine.

Joyce Anderson
Another BIG THANK-YOU goes out to Joyce for her fund raising effort, and thank-you to her wonderful friends, too, who contributed to Winnie's "trailer fund." Joyce was one of my fantastic New York hosts, who went the extra mile for us, contacting the media to get our story out. When she heard that Winnie was unable to walk across the USA, she raised money for Winnie to trailer ride from Ohio to Paradise, CA, and threw in a big chunk of change herself!

David Balz
for transporting us to two universities for Winnie's lamness exams and hosting us at Wyandot County Humane Society Equine Rescue Program for over 2 weeks until Winnie could be trucked to California!

Jaya Mae Gregory, daughter

Darshan Ahluwalia, son

Gary Gregory, son-in-law

Thanks also to Joyce's friend, Carol, for the lovely dinner at her home, where we got to meet more animal lovers and enjoyed great food and fun conversation, and thanks to Bob, for the donation to our trip effort.

Myron and Jean Langer of Loosestrife Farm
for hosting Winnie at their barn, and for giving me a luxurious night in their lovely home. Like Joyce, Myron and Jean really did a lot for me, because I kept having problems that brought me back to their barn after that first night. My phone went dead and I hadn't arranged for hosts further down the road, my horse had a heel rub, and then a saddle sore required Winnie to rest for a few days. She had luxory accommodations, with a dry stall and turnout in a big green pasture, until we could work out a "plan B" for the trip.

Eunice Shumalski
We happened upon Eunice soon after Misha left us on the Rail Trail; she was working to clear brush there. Further up the trail, we discovered a bridge out, and on the backtrack, Eunice offered to help us find another route. First we stopped at her house for delicious fruit and ice tea. Then Eunice saddled up her beautiful Tennessee Walker, Blue Solitaire, and became our personal guide.

Debbie and Michael Warren of Duchess Farm in High Falls, NY
Thanks for hosting Winnie, her BFF Sundae, my friend Mary and me at their barn and cottage. Thanks also to daughters Misha and Chantel, and especially to Mom Debbie, for the fabulous bread, fruit and cheese spread when we arrived. A big thank you goes out to Misha for saddling up the following day and leading us to the rail trail, for driving Mary's trailer up to Loosestrife Farm; additional thanks to her mom for taking care of Mary's dogs during the day so we could ride, rather than walk, most of the distance to Kerhonkson!
